How To Survive A Challenging Day

As weeks go, last week was a rather rubbish one.  Which wouldn’t be so bad… except that every single day contained its fair dollop of rubbish.

But don’t think this post is going to be a pity party… because it’s not!

I’ve actually learned a few valuable things, which I want to share with you in this post.

So if you’re having a bad day, hang on in there.

Hopefully, you’re about to feel better!

How To Survive A Challenging Day

1. Learn The Lesson And Apply It

In most things that happen – whether it’s good, bad or ugly – there’s a lesson to be learned.

My business coach Alex always bangs on about this.  And he should know.

He saw his business go from a ridiculously high (I’m talking tens of thousands of dollars) profit to absolute zero in the space of just one week.  Yes, you heard me… one week!

Now, Alex could have started his own pity party.  He could have started thinking he was useless, would never succeed and was doomed to nothingness.

But he didn’t.

He reflected on the differences between the two weeks.  He reached out to his customers to find out what was going on.  He looked at his data.

He sought out the lesson he needed to learn.

He learned it and then applied it.

And what happened?  The business regained momentum, he matched his peak profit levels again… and then crushed them.

I won’t even tell you what Alex’s profit is today, simply because many of you wouldn’t believe me.  But let me put it this way… his company just made it into the Inc. 5000.

And that’s because every time he hits a wall, an obstacle, a barrier, a disappointment (whatever you want to call it), he learns the lesson and applies it.

Last week might have been complete poo for me, but on reflection I’ve learned several very useful lessons which will serve me well from this week onward.

If you’re having a crap day, what lessons are there for you?

Happy Monday #48

Good morning!  And a very happy Monday to you 🙂

At 7am this morning, I emerged from a wonderfully quiet weekend, armed and ready to take on the world!  Or so I thought.  It turns out that my work plans have had to take a backseat for a few hours, as I take time out to…

Cute little things aren’t they?  Though, as you can imagine, Rocky wasn’t best pleased when I told him he had new cousins:

I guess he’s already thinking about the impact his cousins will have on his Christmas presents from grandma & grandpa 😉

Happy Monday #47

Well, it’s the Monday after the week of “The Dress” (blue & black or white & gold?  Let me know!) and life is starting to get back to normal.  I suppose you could say it’s week 1 AD… After the Dress.

Burrum bum… I’m here until Thursday folks.  Try the steak!

So, what kind of Monday are you having?  Where I am, the sun is shining and the sky is blue.  Happy days!

But it’s not a Happy Monday for everyone.  In fact, it’s amazing how many people I know have been dreading today all weekend.  Dreading it because they don’t want to go back to work, don’t like their jobs or don’t enjoy what they do.

The day we ranked #1 in Google

The day we ranked #1 in Google:

Okay, so this morning I received this text message from my pal Greg (of eagle & chicken fame):

Number one ranked in Google, Celebration, Survive at Work, your one stop resource for work skills, work resources, work tools and work motivation. Hate work? Want promotion? Survive at work will help you thrive at work.

Yes it’s true… SurviveAtWork.com is now ranked first on Google!

That’s number 1 out of the 218,000,000 results which come up when you search for survive at work.

My mind is blown.  Two hundred and eighteen MILLION results… and we’re number 1!

Let me hear you say WOOHOO!!!

It was only back in September that we were celebrating being number 1 on Bing.  Back then, you’ll recall that number 1 on Google was an aspiration… albeit a seemingly unobtainable one.  Since then, we’ve gradually crawled up the rankings, consistently being kept from the top few slots by a few results that appeared to be anchored there, due to the fact they’re “big boy” sites like Life Hacker and Amazon.

Happy Monday #43

It’s that time of the week again – Happy Monday people of the interweb!  I hope you all had an awesome weekend 🙂

I stumbled upon this week’s Happy Monday last night, while I was doing something I call my “weekly recharge”.  I don’t know if any of you ever do this, but I’ll often spend some time thinking about the week ahead – boosting my motivation, building my energy and laser focusing on my goals.

If you have never done this by the way, it’s definitely worth giving a go – it works!
